Vicuñas - also known as small camels - live in the South American Andes at an altitude of up to 5000 metres. There they develop a coat that defies the extremely cool climate and whose fineness is unmatched by any other animal.
Thevicuña population is estimated to be only about 270,000 animals worldwide - because only the fine undercoat is used, the "harvest" is extremely small and therefore vicuña wool is an extremely rare, precious product and is one of the rarest precious hairs in the world.
